
Each year, the State of Iowa honors the top students in each school district. In addition to maintaining a highest GPA in their respective classes, recognition is given for being a good citizen by helping with community projects and attending school activities. UNDER CONSTRUCTION--we are currently researching information to put together a short biography of each of these graduates.


2004 recipient: Josh Bruning
Biography:
After graduating high school, Josh went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. While in college, he participated in the Honors program, served as President of the local ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) chapter, and competed in regional programming competitions. Prior to graduation, Josh was named the most outstanding computer science senior. He graduated summa cum laude in 2008. Josh began working as a software engineer for IBM in 2008. As of summer 2009, he is working remotely from his home in Longview, Texas.

2005 recipient: Chris Reed
Biography:
After high school, Chris attended LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, majoring in aeronautical science. He was on the president's list every semester. He graduated in 2009 summa cum laude and is currently employed as a flight instructor at the college. He was a member of the Gold Key honor society and also received a faculty scholarship for the most promising student in aeronautical science as a sophomore. He was selected by the aeronautical science faculty and staff to carry the gonfalon for his college at graduation.

2006 recipient: Danny Vennerberg
Biography:
Danny attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa after high school graduation. He was on the Dean’s list in the Physics Department every semester at Morningside. After two years at Morningside he transferred to Iowa State University and was accepted in the Materials Engineering program. The summer after his sophomore year he was chosen to work on a research project at Coe College with Dr. Steve Feller. Danny presented this project with his research group at Vancouver, British Columbia the following summer, 2009. He is on the Dean’s list at Iowa State. He is working at Ames Lab this summer.

2007 recipient:
Garrett Allen
Biography:
Garrett Allen ('07) attends Morningside College, Sioux City, IA, with majors in math and physics. He is in the Honors program, been on the Dean's List, and is a member of Phi Eta Sigma, a National Freshman Honor Society. His sophomore year he was inducted into Kappa Mu Epsilon, the national honor society for math majors and minors. He was named a Morningside Roadman Scholar at the end of his sophomore year. In the summer of 2009, he worked in Huntsville, AL, for the Missile Defense Agency in the Israeli Cooperative Program office. He actively participated in the testing of a current program and the development of a new ballistic missile interceptor.

2009 recipient: Celia Bruning
Biography:
Celia Bruning ('09) attends Southwestern Community College in Creston, IA, where she is pursuing a degree in Nursing.
